living is easy with eyes closed - - - - misunderstanding all you see - - - - A young girl walked toward the park, hand in hand with a small girl aged three. The little girl as smiley with her blonde hair tied into high pigtails that bounced as she walked down the pavement, she didn’t look very similar to the red head that held her hand, but that girl was her mother. The pair were set to have fun, something that they did quite often. Yes, Mia did look quite young to be a mother and as they walked it was obvious that people thought she was too young, the disapproving looks were coming from every direction but they just bounced off Mia, she’d been getting them for three years, they no longer bothered her. Thing was, people judged on appearance, when they saw Mia with Elsie they just judged her straight away, they didn’t want to know the story, they didn’t care if Mia was a good mom, all they knew was that she seemed too young to be a parent, they just pegged her as an irresponsible teen. Thing was Mia had a whole ‘nother story, one that she kept to herself but one that would make all the people starting at her think twice. Sure, Mia had had Elsie when she was sixteen, but her little girl was the product of a rape, not that she’d tell Elsie that.
The three year old was the best thing to ever happen to Mia and although that day over three years ago had been the worst day of her life she wouldn’t take it back, because Elsie was her life, she didn’t know what she’d do without her. The girls smile widened as she spotted the playground and she looked up to her mom with a hopeful gaze, she nodded and the blonde went running off into the sand and climbing up to go on the slide. Mia looked around and sat herself down on a bench so she could watch Elsie play. The playground wasn’t too busy which relieved Mia, she found it hard to keep track of her daughter when there were loads of children around, Elsie was quite small and she could move quite fast. The girl just sat mulling over her life, she had grown up a few hours away but she moved into the new town to try and stand on her own two feet, it was tough being a single mother at only nineteen but she was pretty sure she could handle it; she’d only been in the town a few months but her and Elsie were really enjoying it.
Mia wished she had some company, back home her sister had accompanied them when they went places or they’d had her friends or other family members, but here Mia had no-one. She spent her time either working or looking after Elsie, it left little time for her to have to herself and to meet friends, especially now that she was no longer at school. There were the other moms at Elsie’s daycare but they all looked down on her, they could appreciate that she was a good parent but they thought she was selfish for bringing a child into the world when she was too young to fully care for her, although Mia actually did a pretty good job. Mia had taken to being a mum like a duck to water, she hadn’t expected to but as soon as Elsie was born it seemed that something inside Mia just knew what to do. Everyone that met her said that Elsie was one of the happiest children they had ever encountered and Mia was proud of that, she was proud of Elsie, the girl was well behaved and confident.

people change and promises are broken clouds can move and skies will be wide open Shay pushed on the side walk, making the skateboard she was on move just a little bit faster. As she skated she received disapproving looks and shouts, but she just smiled and pushed on, having learned from a young age not to care what anyone else thought and do as you pleased. The advice had been given to her by her father, so she ignored it. Her father had told her a lot of things when she was younger, but Shay tried her hardest to forget everything he said.
'Your worthless and are nothing, use this. No one cares about what you do, so do whatever you want. When I go to the bar, do you think I play by the rules? Do you think I stop when they say no? Hell no. If anyone tries to stop you, this is what you do.......'
Shahara stumbled off her skateboard as her father’s words drifted into her head. She shook her head to get rid of the next part, the part when he describes how to get someone out of your way. How to kill. The sick bastard had been dead for three years but his words and slaps were still so clear in her head. Shay had been raised in the poorest part of town by a murderer, he had been on the news, on newspapers, and it was awful. Twenty five, twenty five people were his victims, and he told Shay just how he got rid of every single one. At first she thought she was going crazy when she dreamed of her father’s words and actions, but what did she expect? She thought anyone would be so troubled if they were in her shoes, with that thought in mind she took a deep breath and skated on to the park, calming down as she got closer.
Shay jumped off her board and walked over to a water fountain, out of breath from skating. It was warm out but there was a breeze, which made her shiver and rub her bare arms. She wore a tank top, jeans, and sneakers, her hair dark and wavy and her skin tanned from being out so much. As soon as winter came she would be paler then a sheet of paper, but she didn’t care too much about looks. Other girls had called her a tomboy, and she was used to being considered one of the guys, but she didn’t mind. She loved her guy friends but really loved the looks on all those snobby girls faces whenever she would hang out with her friends. They would scowl and ask amongst themselves and ask how a girl like Shay could attract the guys.
As she straightened up and wiped her lips with the back of her hand she saw a little girl playing on the playground, and smiled. She loved kids, Shay was good with kids and would volunteer to babysit for free, she just loved to play and laugh with them. One day she hoped to have her own, she promised to herself she would never be like her father, and wouldn’t walk out on her child, or anyone for that matter, like her mother had. Shay looked around and saw there wasn’t to many other people, just a family eating at a picnic table and a couple walking their dog. She noticed a younger looking girl sitting by herself, probably in her early twenties or late teens. Shahara wondered if that was the child’s mother, or sister. She was curious, and she really felt like talking to someone, so she walked over and sat on the bench with the young girl. Shay smiled a friendly smile and asked ”Is she yours?” as she nodded her head in the direction of the younger girl, who maybe three or four. If the girl was hers, Shay wouldn’t judge. She did wonder, however, if the girl would judge her for her skater girl look. Most girls around Shays age didn’t accept it to well, but Shay was happy with herself and others harshness wouldn't stop her from having a good time. TAGGED ! living is easy with eyes closed - - - - misunderstanding all you see - - - - Mia really fancied some company but she hardly new anyone in the small town and that left her sitting alone. She missed her family so much, it was weird for her to go this long without seeing them or even talking to them. Mia had been worried about how Elsie would react but she seemed to be coping better than Mia, she made friends easily and she went to fun activities, Mia didn’t have any free time. She was still looking for a babysitter, she’d had three back home as well as her family which had been pretty convenient, whenever she wanted to go anywhere there was always someone to help. Now, she had to take Elsie everywhere or hope she could arrange a playdate, it was Elsie’s fourth birthday in two days and Mia still hadn’t been able to buy her the doll house she really wanted because she was either with Elsie or at work. Mia wasn’t sure what she was going to do about it but worst case scenario was that her and Elsie went on a special trip on Elsie’s birthday so she could pick out the exact present, Mia would pretend it was on purpose but she’d much prefer Elsie being able to open a present on her birthday. Mia had gotten her little things which she’d bought over the last few weeks without Elsie noticing but the house she wanted was pretty large and Elsie was paying full attention.
Elsie and Mia were heading back to their home town in a week so Elsie could get her presents from the family but they were only staying a day and then back into their own little bubble. Mia couldn’t wait until she could start college, she had to wait until Elsie was at school because then she wouldn’t be paying for nusery and daycare and hopefully they would get enough money in grants so Mia could do what she wanted and train to be nanny. Mia just wanted a daycare of her own but she wanted to have the proper qualifications, it was the only way she’d make money from it. At the moment she was a hairdresser and a pretty good one considering she’d been doing it since she was sixteen but she didn’t want it to be her full time job, she wanted to work with kids all the time, just like having Elsie. Mia had never considered herself a child person, until the day Elsie was born, that day Mia’s ideas on life changed instantly. The little baby began to be the centre of Mia’s world, and she was sure that would never change.
The red-head looked up as a girl sat next to her and began to speak, Mia turned her head to face the girl and nodded with a smile as the girl asked if the blonde little girl was hers, “yeh, that’s Elsie” she said. Mia was a little surprised, no-one usually put the two together, Elsie was blonde and blue-eyed whilst Mia had bright red hair and didn’t look old enough to be Elsie’s mom. The girl sitting next to her looked friendly, Mia had encountered a few girls who just seemed stuck-up but this girl had a whole different vibe. The red-head hated to judge on appearance but she knew it was something that people did without realising and Mia was one of them. Mia then realised she’d introduced her daughter but not herself, “I’m Mia” she said with a bright smile before glancing over to Elsie and giving her a wave. She redirected her attention to the girl sitting next to her hoping for a name in return, it was time Mia met some people her age, ones that didn’t judge straight off the bat. The way the girl had looked at her whilst asking the initial question had been curious, not judgemental, it seemed like she just wanted to start a conversation, she wasn’t looking for a reason to knock Mia down. tag open?! words sixsixseven?! lyrics strawberry fields forever - the beatles credit a girl with kaleidoscope eyes @ caution 2.0 notes here is mia

Shay usually kept to herself when it came to strangers, but she had moments were she would talk to just about anyone. The girl sitting next to her had an welcoming air about her, but perhaps that was just Shays thinking. If an old man wearing leopard pants and a leather jacket was sitting there Shay probably would have sat and talked. She noticed how the woman next to her and the girl playing on the park equipment didn’t look to similar, the girl having a pretty shade of red hair and the younger one having blonde. Shay resembled her father in some ways, something she hates. Her eye shape though, were her moms. Whenever her dad was angry with something, he would yell at Shay
“ I swear it gets harder to even look at you! With those doe eyes like your mother, stupid bitch she was! I would never walk out on you Shay, its just me and you now….”
Shay gripped the side of the bench, the side the woman couldn’t see, why did her fathers words have to be so vivid in her head? She swore, her father could be haunting her. She made sure her face didn’t show any of the pain she was feeling, and was glad the girl didn’t greet her with a sneer like a lot of girls did. Shay wondered how old the girl was, she looked close to Shays age. She smiled and relied “Im Shay, its nice to meet you.” she looked out at the playground “ I love kids, how old is Elsie? I baby-sit from time to time, kids are so much fun to have around” Shay meant the words she said, sometimes when she decided to sit and just think of things, she wondered what it would be like to be a mother some day. Seeing her kids off to school, watching them grow. She didn’t want to have any children for quite sometime, but it was still interesting to think about it.
If Shay was a mother, she would do everything and anything for them. For some reason she felt like she needed to prove like she wasn’t like her parents, and is a better person then they will ever be or had been. Shay was a caring, loving girl, and because of her childhood she is strong but troubled. She swore if she ever saw anyone abusing their child she would go off on them, how could some people be so selfish? Shay had a feeling Mia wasn’t the abusive type, she swore she saw her look at Elsie so lovingly, she thought of how much she wanted to be looked at like that. Her father had given her loving looks, and actually really did love her little Shay, but he was crazy and had different ways of showing his love, by showing her how to hurt someone else. If only she had been brave enough to stand up for herself……she would probably wouldn’t be there right now.
Shays father had been arrested when she was fifteen, no one knew Shay before her father had been caught because he wouldn’t let her leave the house most of the time. She was home schooled and whenever she did go out with her father he was extremely protective of her. Also she was sort of ashamed to go out with her father for any reason, always kept a ball cap on her head so no one could see her face clearly. After he was arrested, she came out of her little bubble and was happy to make new friends and have a close relationship with her foster parents. Everything was starting to go normal, Shay didn’t show anything hat resembled her past life, had even changed her name from Shahara Kelly Jones to Shay Marie Evans. The only people that knew of her old life were her parents and the men that arrested her father, and they swore to never tell anyone for Shays sake. Shay would never tell anyone else her secret, and in some ways was trying to hide it even from herself.

living is easy with eyes closed - - - - misunderstanding all you see - - - - Mia’s secret was really that, often people said they had a secret but they told almost anyone they could, the only people that knew were Mia’s family, and only because they’d been at home when she’d come in crying that night. It was only three weeks later that Mia found out that she was expecting, she’d never really thought out it, the fact that he hadn’t used protection and she wasn’t on the pill because she was a virgin before that day. As soon as she knew there was a baby growing inside of her Mia had changed her story, she told her friends that the dad was a boy who had come to the town for a holiday and had run off home as soon as Mia told him, she’d rather be the girl that got left than her daughter be the girl with the rapist dad. Everything Mia did was for Elsie, every lie she told was to protect the most important person in her life, that was the life of a mother, well to Elsie anyway. The red-head knew she was lucky, she had a very loving family, her mom adored her and her dad thought of Mia as his pride and joy, she knew some people weren’t so lucky and she knew never to take them for granted, her family were her back-bone, without them she would just crumble. Being two hours away from her family was difficult for the girl who had always depended on them but she knew it was good for her, she needed to be able to stand on her own two feet, and she seemed to be doing okay.
The girl turned as the brunette introduced herself and Mia put the name into her mental storage bank, Mia was terrible at names so she had to make a conscious effort to remember them. Mia’s uncle, who looked after Elsie quite a lot, was called Shay but Mia decided this probably wasn’t a good thing to tell the girl, no-one likes knowing that they share their name with someone of the opposite sex. Mia’s mind began to wander towards her Uncle’s family, Elsie had been asking about them a lot recently, Elsie used to be looked after by Shay’s wife Colette three days a week and Elsie loved it because they had three other children, when they went out they looked like the perfect family. It made Mia happy to see Elsie enjoying herself but it also upset her, because that was one thing Elsie would never have, that family. Sure, Mia wanted other children but not for a good few years and by then there’d be a big gap between Elsie and the other children, plus, it wouldn’t be her dad, it’d be someone else’s. As the girl asked what age Elsie was Mia went to answer but then the girl said that she baby-sat and Mia’s ears pricked up, she’d been looking for a babysitter for ages, she’d found a young girl who was happy to watch Elsie on occasion but she was too young to really help.
“She’s four next week” Mia said with a smile, “is there any chance you’d be interested in babysitting Elsie?” Mia asked, of course she’d get to know the girl a bit better before she left her daughter with her but Mia was getting desperate. Elsie’s birthday was in a week and she wanted a giant Barbie house for her birthday, something that Mia couldn’t sneakily buy when out with the little blonde. She needed to go on a proper shopping trip without Elsie and so having someone to watch her would be an absolute godsend. Who Elsie’s dad was was one of Mia’s only secrets, she tended to be pretty open with people about everything bar that and that was a trait that a lot of people liked in Mia. Just as Mia was awaiting the girl’s response Elsie came running over, her elbow raised high to the sky, “I scratched it” the girl said with a sad look upon her face. Mia took a tissue from her bag and wiped the blood before covering it with a bright pink band-aid, “better?” she asked and with that Elsie nodded, the smile returning to her face. She turned to the girl sat next to her mom and extended her hand, “my name Elsie” she said, her grammar not quite there but the sentiment was clear. tag open?! words sevensomething?! lyrics strawberry fields forever - the beatles credit a girl with kaleidoscope eyes @ caution 2.0 notes here is mia
