one year. it had been exactly one year since they had gotten together and it had been the best year of raidon’s life. sure, they had their ups and downs, but even when they were at their worst, raidon was happier than at any other moment in his life. honestly, before roz, his life hadn’t even started yet. but now that he had felt something so amazing, so much love and protection, he knew what it felt like to live. he had roz to thank for that. and he figured that right now, it was about time that roz knew everything about him. that’s why the night before, rai had sat down and wrote down his life story. not every single detail, but just enough for roz to see the shadowy past that raidon experienced. from this point forward, rai was going to try and let it go. he didn’t need to remember what he went through and all it was doing was pulling him down every time the memories came back. he has everything he needs here in the present. all he needs is roz. roz is his everything, his happiness. that’s all that matters.

so, rolling out of bed early on the morning of their anniversary, rai ducked into the closet and pulled on his clothes, not even bothering with his hair that was, no doubt, poofy as it always was in the morning. deciding it wasn’t even worth it to care, he simply pulled on his boots and grabbed his keys. he hoped that he could slip out without waking roz. ducking out of the bedroom, he grabbed a mug of coffee and closed the front door quietly behind him. he had to get roz’s present. of course, he should have gotten it long before the morning of their anniversary, but it’s kind of difficult to hide a snow white kitten in a small apartment.

finally pulling up in front of the animal shelter, rai walked in and smiled at the woman at the front desk. he had been in here a week prior, picking out the kitten that he wanted and setting up a date to bring him home. roz was obsessed with cats and rai that it was the most adorable thing. besides, their little black kitten desperately needed a companion and what better than a little snow ball of a friend? after chatting with her for a few minutes, she walked him back to retrieve the kitten. smiling slightly, he cradled the two month old kitten in his arms. signing all the things he needed to sign, they placed the kitten in a small cardboard box just before taking him outside and setting him in the front seat of the car.

driving home, rai could only chuckle is the small meows came from the inside of the box, small scratching sounds as it tried to claw it’s way out. finally pulling into his parking spot, rai maneuvered up the stares, hugging the box against his chest. sneaking back into the apartment, rai set the box down on the counter and reached up to pull the top apart.

roz couldn't exactly remember what life had been like three hundred and sixty six days ago. he expected that it had been somewhat miserable and awfully lonely. that many days ago, he hadn't had rai in his life and he concluded now, that life without rai was no life at all. rai had come to be his everything, his forever. yeah, heavy words, but roz was just sure that there was never going to be anyone as perfect for him as rai was. sure, things weren't always sunshine and roses, but the bad days were nothing when at the end of the day, rai was still in his life. he loved being able to look across the room and see rai, to hold rai in his arms when he slept, to love rai with everything he had. roz just loved rai and everything that he came with, even the bad days.

that morning when roz woke up, there was a smile on his face. it was like his body knew that today was the twenty third of august, one year exactly since he had asked rai to be his boyfriend. sadly, there was no one in his arms and the spot on the bed next to him was empty. sighing, roz got up and pulled on a pair of sweat pants. he couldn't hear rai anywhere in their apartment and assumed he had gone out somewhere. it would have been nice to wake up next to rai this morning, but if rai had things to do, then so be it. he walked into the kitchen and grabbed a box of wheaties from the cupboard. yes, roz ate wheaties for breakfast, but he wasn't hungry this morning. this box had been the perfect hiding place for the gifts roz had boughten rai. see, rai hated wheaties and would never willingly pull the box out of the cupboard, so he'd never look there. opening the box and pulling out one rectangular box and one ring box, roz replaced the cereal box and retreated back into the bedroom.

he shoved the smaller box into the pocket in his sweatpants and sat the rectangular box on the bed in front of him. he bit his lip and twisted his hands together. roz was a nervous wreck, the small box burning a hole in his pocket. he stood up and walked over to the dresser, opening it and staring at the top drawer's contents. he could smoke if he wanted to, just to calm down, or he could be sober when rai got home so he wasn't high as fuck when he gave his little speech to rai. roz knew he probably shouldn't smoke, but being an absolute mess in front of rai didn't sounds that appealing. he didn't have time to decide though as he heard the front door opening and rai walk into the kitchen.

taking a deep breath, roz ran his hands over his face and nodded to himself. it was all going to go great. somehow. he walked out of the bedroom, the rectangular box in his hand, and entered the kitchen. rai was standing there, leaning over a cardboard box and roz could hear.. purring? he froze. you did not.. he said, trailing off with a huge smile on his face, the present his his hand forgotten.

pulling apart the top of the box, he looked inside to see the small puff of a white a kitten. smiling softly, he reached inside and ran his gloved hand along the tiny, furry body and chuckled slightly when he felt the creature begin to purr. tipping the box slightly to get a better angle, he scratched the kitten's ear with his nub nails and his lips broke into a full smile. just as he brought his other hand into the box, he heard roz speak from directly in front of him. jumping slightly and lifting his head to look at roz, he gave a sheepish little smile as he pulled the pure white kitten out of the box and hugged it against his chest. picking the box up off the counter, he quietly dropped it onto the floor and walked around the counter to stand in front of roz. "i did," he said in a deep whisper, turning his head a bit to look at the creature tucked into his chest and under his arm. "i figured he'd be a great new addition to our life," rai added afterward, a little bit louder than previous.

if raidon was being completely honest with himself, he'd be able to flat out tell you that he was interested in having a couple kids. perhaps not in the near future, but the idea of raising a life with roz was a dream that rai would kill for. besides, they were the perfect candidates for adoption and rai was dead set on adopting a couple kids at some point in his life anyway. living through an adoption agency was not as fun as people liked to make it sound, rai would know. so helping get someone out of that kind of situation was exactly what rai was hoping to do someday. rai snapped back into reality quickly when he felt the small creature wiggle in his hand. bringing his other hand up, he cradled the delicate body in his large hands and handed it towards roz. "happy anniversary, babe."

roz had a slight obsession with the furry goodness that was cats. they were adorable and they weren't needy. they didn't cling to you twenty four seven and you didn't need to take them on walks. not that roz had anything against dogs, because rai had a dog of his own, roz just preferred cats. he looked at the cute little white kitten in rai's arms and nearly melted. kittens and rai, his two favorite things, and in front of his was the ultimate combination. the hugest smile was on his face at the moment and when he reached out to take the kitten from rai, he remembered the box in his hand. he set it on the counter next to the box the kitten had been in and took the kitten from rai's arms. happy anniversary, roz said smiling. that's, uh.. for you. he nodded to the box.

biting his lip, roz pet the kitten in his arms. it was adorable and white, just like he's wanted. the idea of having a black kitten and a white one was just too cute to him. he nuzzled the kitten and then set it down on the floor, allowing it to explore their apartment. roz leant against the counter and shoved his hands into his pockets as he watched rai closely. he could feel the small box in his hand and the previous nerves that had been shooed away by the kitten were back. he shifted on his feet and swallowed hard. he hoped everything went well after rai opened this present. he wasn't exactly sure what he would do if rai freaked out on him. he'd just have to hope for the best.

when roz took the small creature from his hands, rai simply stood back and watched as the two interacted for a moment. smiling slightly when roz placed the ball of white onto the floor, he laughed slightly as the creature attempted to catch it’s footing on the fluffed carpet. his attention was quickly brought back to what roz had previously said. turning his head slightly, he spied the box on the counter and he bit his lip, his front teeth digging into the sensitive skin as he reached out for the box. turning it over in his hands, rai simply stared at it for a moment before lifting his head up to look at roz quickly, a slight look of apprehension on his face before he looked back down at the box. slowly opening it, a large smile spread across his face as the necklace came into view.

looking over to where roz had leaned against the counter, he flashed him his brilliant smile as he grabbed the pendant in the box. slowly pulling it out, he set the box on the counter and looked at the heart in his hands. “it’s beautiful, baby,” he whispered softly as he turned it over in his hands and ran the chain through his hands. clasping the edges, he pulled the ends around his neck and under his hair, shutting the clasp with ease between his trained fingers. turning the pendant to face the front, he smiled down at it as it rested on his chest. glancing over once more, he leaned in and connected their lips in a soft kiss. “thank you,” he whispered against roz’s mouth.

roz's face broke out into a large smile as he watched rai look at the necklace. he could tell rai liked it, which meant roz had done a brilliant job of picking it out. he'd studied rai's jewelry before he'd gone out and bought it, hoping to buy something that rai would really like. he watched rai slip the necklace on and roz's stomach felt warm. it looked perfect there, but hopefully what was nestled in the box in roz's pocket would look even more perfect on rai.

he swallowed hard and leant away from rai slightly. i.. i, uh, have one more thing to give you, he mumbled, looking at rai carefully. he rubbed his hand across the back of his neck and shoved his hand into his pocket, pulling the box out of it. he looked down at it for a moment and then looked up at rai, pulling a smile. sinking down to one knee, his bit his lip and flipped open the box. taking a deep breath, roz looked up at rai and launched into the speech he'd been working on for weeks. i know what this looks like, but that's not what this is. he began. i cant remember life without you, rai and i don't want to. i don't want to remember what it was like not to love you, not to have you by my side. i want to make sure i don't have to remember that. i love you, raidon. so much. roz paused for a minute and reached out with his free hand to grab rai's hand and lace their fingers together. you are my everything, my forever. i'm not asking you to marry me because i don't see how a piece of paper can make what we have any different. i guess what saying is.. trails off, bitting his lip and swallowing hard. i'm asking you for a promise. i promise you that you're it for me. that i'm going to love you until the end of time, just like this ring says. i promise you to always be there for you, no matter what. i promise you everything i have to give you. you are more than just my boyfriend, you're everything. so, i guess that's what i'm asking you. will you be my forever? roz licked his lips and watched rai's face carefully, hoping that he got the answer he wanted and that he hadn't scared rai away.

feeling roz lean away from his whisper was almost enough to hurt rai. instead, he just narrowed his eyes and listened as roz stuttered over his words and he knew almost instantly that this was going to be something vital. taking a deep breath and forcing his jittery nerves to calm themselves, he listened as roz launched into a speech. rai had to force himself to pay attention to what was being said, his mind too interested in roz’s sudden movement to one knee and a box that was held gingerly in his hands. swallowing hard, he made his ears train in on the words and listen hard to every syllable that was said. everything that came out of his boyfriend’s mouth was enough to make him quiver. it was perfect, everything about it was absolutely amazing. he couldn’t have pictured a better moment for it take place in. he couldn’t picture a better speech. and he definitely couldn’t picture a better reaction from himself, no matter how horrible that reaction was. he honestly pictured himself falling apart like a bumbling fool in this kind of situation.

when roz was finally done speaking, rai just stared at him for a long moment, his eyes twitching between the box and his hand that was laced with roz’s. he brought his lips into a thin line as he sniffled slightly, still not trusting his voice. he knew well what he wanted to say, but he just couldn’t get his vocal chords to even consider producing the sound. quickly collapsing onto his knees in front of roz, leveling their line of vision, he hoped to convey what he could through his eyes before tearing his hand away from roz’s grip and throwing his arms around his shoulders, burying his face in the side of his head, hiding his eyes in his hair. “i love you,” he whispered, almost low enough to go unheard, against roz’s ear. “yes, i’ll be your forever, baby. forever and ever.” he finally choked out as he tightened his arms around his shoulders as the tears of joy finally spilled over his cheeks.

roz could swear that for a moment the world stopped turning. the only people that existed in that moment were roz and rai and the other some billion, roz just stopped caring about. he'd heard all he needed to hear, everything he needed to complete the moment perfectly. what had he been worried about? roz wasn't sure, but really, he'd been pretty positive that this was how it would go. he just didn't want there to be a chance he was wrong and was left kneeling on the floor, alone. roz could die a happy man now. he'd gotten everything he'd wanted out of life, well.. except maybe one thing. no dying would happen for a very long time because he life was officially just starting and he couldn't be happier.

he grinned widely as rai sank down to his knees in front of roz. pulling rai into his arms, he held him close, just breathing him in. he could finally say that rai was really his, forever, and he really, really loved that. i love you too, baby. always. he couldn't keep the smile off his face as he held rai close, burring his face in rai's neck. having rai close to him just completed the moment. sure, rai was usually the cuddly and clingy one, but even now and then roz loved just having rai by him. now was one of those times. he pulled back and reached a hand out, cupping rai's cheek. i'm so fucking happy, he whispered as he leant forward, pressing their lips together softly.

he laughed slightly as roz spoke again, the ecstasy running through his veins was almost tangible. he was more than happy. this was the most amazing moment he had ever experienced in his entire life and he had roz to thank for that. he couldn’t imagine a better person to spend the rest of his life with. roz was everything to rai, perfect in every way - even though the man had flaws of his own. rai figured that.. as long as it was part of roz and who he is, then it was absolutely perfect. this moment was perfect and raidon could only imagine what the rest of their lives together was going to be like. he knew that, just like this past year, it was going to be full of ups and downs and stupid little fights, but in the whole scheme of things, it made his vision of the future that much better.

another chuckle escaped him as he listened to him speak again. returning the kiss as softly as he received it, he melted against roz, as he did almost every time their lips touched. pulling away after a moment, he opened his eyes slightly, nearly invisible tear trails on his cheeks. “i’ve never been this happy, roz. thank you, for everything. i couldn’t picture anything more perfect.” raidon said, feeling slightly better now that he was able to get something a little more intelligent out. bringing their lips together one more time, raidon smiled against the other’s lips and leaned back again. biting onto his lip, he untangled himself from roz and shyly looked at him, lifting up his left and pulling off his leather glove. tossing the glove over his shoulder, he held his hand out to roz expectantly.
