Teddy asked. "One sugar," he added, placing the correct change on the top of the counter and eyeing the woman in the café. She seemed to be giving him a certain look of disdain that was usually reserved solely for Teddy when he was returning a girl home after a night out. He'd seen that look from quite a few parents before. Kind of absolute hatred, and he wondered if he'd met the woman previously for said reason. However, her disapproving look didn't disappear as she served a second customer and Teddy figured that was just her default facial expression. Taking his coffee he turned to leave as the door opened again and he paused, recognising the figure he was about to enter. "Fuck," Teddy muttered quietly to himself.[/ul]

Adelaide sighed as she pushed open the door to leave her latest store. It was nearing eleven'o'clock and she hadn't bought a single thing. Which was really starting to surprise her. She had been in town since seven or eight this morning, and normally would have more bags than one girl could carry. Her primary reason for coming into town today hadn't been so much to actually shop, though. It was due to her lack of sleep the previous night, and her desire to get out of her house. A lack of sleep was something that Adelaide would have thought that she'd gotten used to by now. She used to party with every given chance, something that probably wasn't healthy for someone her age. She hadn't care, though, up until the point that she got pregnant. Then, it seemed, the partying hit a break wall and her sleeping habits returned to somewhat of a normal schedule.
Well, almost. Adelaide got up way more than she normally would have to run to the bathroom. And, after yesterday's stressful admittance to her sister, Addie hadn't slept the slightest the night before. She was starting to get rather tired. Slinging her bag over her shoulder, her eyes skimmed over the various small stores in the area, debating on her next move. Some caffeine would really do her some good right now. Considering this, Addie kept on walking past the general store and several other small stores. She had parked her car somewhere in the area of a cafe earlier. Certainly they served some type of coffee? Or, at least had something with caffeine in it. Adelaide would settle for just about whatever now.
Her eyes shifted downward now, studying her cell phone as she walked. She skimmed over the latest text message, making her way across the block that separated her from the local cafe. She glanced up periodically, making certain that no one was going to walk into her and that she was going in the right direction. She could see her car parked up ahead, across the street from what she assume to be the cafe. So, her pace increased slightly. She was thirsty, and somewhat hungry, but she mainly just wanted a coffee. With any luck, she could be in and out of the cafe in a matter of minutes and back to her so-called 'shopping.' Glancing back to her phone, Adelaide now pulled open the cafe door. She stepped in, her eyes still focused on her cell phone. It was only after the jiggle of the bells had ceased and the door had closed behind her that she bothered to look up.
And then she caught sight of an all too familiar figure. "Shit." Adelaide froze, wide eyed behind her sunglasses. What in the world was he doing here? Addie shifted uncomfortably, studying him for just a few seconds. He seemed to mirror her feelings of shock or dread, but she couldn't bring herself to say anything. What was she supposed to say to him? He was her ex. A fling. And, really, they had spent most of their time avoiding each other since then. There wasn't much one could say to that.

... that was when things got a little odd. It was the kind of thing someone would do if they weren't over their ex, but Teddy could honestly say he'd laid to rest whatever Addie and he had a long time ago. Kayla was a very different person to her sister, and Teddy actually liked that. The fact they looked almost identical... that was still a little weird. He held the coffee in his hand and took a deep breath, neither of them were exactly children and neither were at fault nor innocent. Teddy was sure they could approach the situation with an appropriate level of maturity. Perhaps. The fact remained that, as far as Teddy was aware, Kayla hadn't imparted the very important news that Teddy and her were going out... sort of. So that meant Teddy had to either keep it covered up and thus end up lying to an ex-girlfriend who already hated his guts, or admitting to her he was seeing her twin. Either way he was quite likely to end up with a slap. He thought for a second that perhaps he would end up deserving said slap too, but that thought was fleeting. Teddy, like any self-respecting male, was biologically engineered to believe he was always in the right - infact, Teddy knew he was always in the right. Completely. The infallible Teddy Caplan, right? He turned on the spot and looked across at her again, and this time he didn't swear. Actually, Teddy was now smiling as he walked across to her. "Addie," he acknowledged. Maybe he could get out of here without striking up a conversation with her, but this thought was immediately destroyed as he watched a woman pulling her baby stroller into the café, leaving Teddy standing awkwardly by Addie. He glanced at the floor and then back over at the cashier. The usually charming Teddy Caplan had been buried alive under a mound of tension as he glanced at Addie again, desperately not wanting to get into this conversation. "You look..." Good? Sexy? Like you had a late night? Angry? Awkward? Teddy settled for a little shrug and smiled at her. "I should probably go," he said quickly. "I don't think I have the emotional capacity for this," he grinned, trying to remain lighthearted. [/ul]

Addie stood there in front of the doorway, feeling rather frozen. She was speechless, that much she could truly admit to. Standing in the cafe with your ex-boyfriend that you had spent a good portion of time avoiding wasn't exactly something that brought words to your mouth. Unless, of course, it had a negative meaning behind it. Several curse words came to mind, but Addie bit her lip, holding them back. Swearing would only make her look even more dumb than she already did. People were probably staring at them, wondering why two teenagers just seemed to be standing speechless in front of each other. Lovely.
Maybe she should just keep walking, acting as if she saw nothing? Just snub Teddy altogether and pretend that whatever relationship they might have had, had never existed? It would be a lot easier than this. "Teddy," Addie started to take a step, just going to walk on by him, when a woman pushed the door open and nearly hit her with a stroller. Addie quickly stepped to the side, the woman pushing on through without the slightest 'sorry' or 'excuse me.' If looks could kill, Addie was certain that the woman would be dead. Then came the sudden realization that, because of the lady, she and Teddy were a lot closer than she would have liked them to be.
Addie bit her lip again, sliding her sunglasses to the top of her head now as she studied Teddy. He seemed to feel compelled to speak, which rather annoyed her. Especially at his comment. She suddenly glanced down at herself, wondering if she really looked as bad as she felt or if Teddy was just at a true loss for words? Whatever the reason, Addie assured herself with the fact that she really didn't care what Teddy thought. Why would she? The fact that he was smiling at her after that, made Addie all the more annoyed. She returned his smile with a frown, folding her arms as she did so. Tension was pretty apparent between them. "At least you're still the same old Teddy." She stated, rather harshly. She caught herself shortly after the words escaped her lips. Her bad mood and lack of sleep wasn't any of Teddy's concern, so she wracked her mind for something nicer to say. Anything nicer. She didn't want him involved in her problems. "What's your rush? Do I honestly look that bad?" She took a small breath, hoping her tone was quite so... rude. Forcing a smile, she glanced Teddy over. He did look like the same old Teddy, but at least he was trying. She felt as if that made him the 'better person' or gave him a one up on her. She needed to try, too.

Teddy replied when she told him he was the same old Teddy, in an almost brash and harsh tone. He'd never felt so strange to be around someone before, and it wasn't like he couldn't deal with being faced with an ex. It was just... well, it was Addie, and she was something quite different to her mild-mannered sister. If it wasn't for the fact they were absolutely identical in physical appearance, Teddy wouldn't even believe they were related. "I mean, seriously, if you're up here, who's downstairs running hell?" he smirked. The pair hadn't even gone out for long - if you could refer to their relationship as 'going out'. It was often the short flings that left such a remarkable impression upon the two parties, and this was an example of such a thing. "You look fine," Teddy responded, realizing it wasn't a good idea to tell Addie she looked like she'd just jogged across the country Forest Gump style and had no sleep. Addie looked fine though, perfectly acceptable, but it did seem like she hadn't been having a lot of sleep recently. Teddy noted it quite well, and he imagined he was probably here for a coffee to cure some of her obvious fatigue. "I'm in no rush... I mean, I'll probably get a parking ticket, but why would want to rush off when I could be here?" Teddy asked. Deciding that his sarcastic and slightly belittling approach would not be scoring points on Addie's good list, he decided to opt for a different approach. "Look, let me get you a drink or a coffee or something," he told her, reaching into his pocket. He certainly didn't mean that buying her a drink would make up for everything that had happened between them, but he was trying to be nice, and he hoped she'd actually appreciate his attempts rather than shoot him down. Teddy was trying to rebuild a bridge, so when she found out about Kayla and him she wouldn't be so horrified. Or not, Teddy thought, either way he wasn't exactly in a prime position to be making jokes at her expense. [/ul]

Their breakup hadn't exactly been the best. Adelaide had always had commitment issues and was already well moved on by the time they did end whatever relationship they might have had. And, even though they were both equally at fault, Addie had always just seemed to blame Teddy for the foul, harsh feelings that overcame her after their breakup. Their relationship had mostly been flings; it really hadn't been anything special. And, yet, here she stood rather in shock from this entire situation. She wasn't exactly speechless. Oh, no. The teen had plenty that she could -or rather, wanted- to say to the boy. None of those words, however, were very nice. At most, they would cause a tiff of sorts and split more ends. Teddy didn't seem pleased with her, either. So... they really didn't need more tension. The mood of the cafe had already seemed to shift drastically since they'd locked eyes.
"Take it as you will," She shrugged uncomfortably, holding her head high. Teddy was not going to get anything over her. Even if she felt like crap, hated his guts, and really wanted to be anywhere but here at this moment, Adelaide was determined to come off as confident and to gain the upper hand in this entire situation. Her intentions were quickly dashed as Teddy went on, however. A very icy glare swept over the teen, feeling rather speechless. So much for the upper hand. "Ha. Aren't you just... hilarious?" Rolling her eyes, she focused her attention on the small line forming at the counter. The cashier didn't look enthused... and, the longer that the teen stood here, the more she felt like just making a beeline for the door. She didn't need a drink that bad. She was perfectly capable of staying awake without it. No coffee was worth this.
Addie honestly wasn't sure where she intended to go with this conversation from here. She had been promising herself to be nice to him, as she honestly didn't need more drama. "I don't need, or even want, you to-" Biting her tongue, Adelaide stopped herself. Even if all she really wanted to do was yell at the boy, he was at least trying. Teddy didn't need involved in her problems, and she might as well use his attempts at making amends to her own advantage. Besides, she was really craving something sweet. "I want a... caramel vanilla cappuccino with extra whipped cream. Something sweet." Addie really didn't understand his motives for being nice. But, since he was trying, she figured that she might as well do him the favor of going along with it. At least long enough for her coffee. Then, with any luck, the two would part ways and she'd be free to... well, do anything but this.
[i'm so sorry that this took me like a year to respond to. i was museless for adelaide. xD]
