Sophias secret is that she killed her ex boyfriend because he abused her in anyway possible; from cursing her to hitting her , even keeping her locked in the house for days. Most everyone thinks Kris's death was an accident (he, erm, fell down those stairs), but not his brother. Sophia is unaware that Kris even has a brother, but ___ knows of Sophia; he couldn't possible think his older brother actually fell down stairs to his death. So he looked into it. He realized, in the info he found, Soph had been the last one with him, his girlfriend for a year, and the one to make the 911 call. He had a suspicions about Sophs involvement in Kris's death, and those suspicions will be confirmed when he questions her for the first time. So basically Soph and __ are rivals, since he wants her to pay for what he knows she did, and will try to get her to confess. Whether they stay enemies, Im not sure. Most likely they will, but anything can happen.
