Kristi sighed and looked around. She was a known task avoider, not because she didn't want to do her work, more of that she couldn't. She didn't know half of the answers on the page; she would procrastinate until the last day she was allowed to do it. Even then she would get every question wrong. It frustrated her, but she hid it by saying that it wasn't because she was dumb; it was because she was a rebel. She didn't like to lie, but everything led to being a fake troublemaker. She didn't like breaking rules, she didn't like to skip class, but it was all an act to keep from getting made fun of.
She stared at the blank study sheet. All that was written on the paper was just the actual study sheet material and her name. She had an algebra test in three days, she didn't know one answer! She growled quietly and tapped her pen on the table. She had been in study hall for 20 minutes and all she had done was sit and sulk about not knowing anything. She had to get a move on, and soon.
She stabbed her paper with her pen and growled quietly. She wasn't feeling like learning and trying. She simply wasn't motivated. A freshman could do better than her; she was only just getting by high school. If she got into college, it would only be by the skin of her teeth. She despised freshmans, only because half of them would make fun of her disabilities. They didn't even know she was faking it, they could see right through it. Sophomores, juniors, and seniors fell for her act. She didn't know how much longer she could keep it up.

The library. Talia adored it. She knew it wasn't the 'cool' place to be, but she still spent all of her study halls there, anyhow. She always tried her hardest to fit in every second of every school day. But, sometimes, she just needed a break. She need time to be 'Natalia Garcia' and not whoever else she was trying to be. So, for forty-five minutes each school day, Talia was willing to be a little geeky.
She had always been incredibly book smart. Her parents would not settle for anything less than that. But, Talia tried not to let on as to just how smart she was. Smart kids were not cool... and really, all she wanted was to fit in. You couldn't do that if you were the class geek, right?
This was why Natalia always picked the table that was the furthest to the back to sit at. It wasn't a table that you could see from the windows that showed into the library. Talia had planned that carefully. But, today, she had been late to study hall. It was very unlike her, but she had stayed after in math class to discuss the latest Algebra problem. She had gotten it marked wrong on her paper, and she had just wanted to understand why. Even though it took her twenty minutes to figure out, Natalia now understood and felt accomplished.
So, the teen started back toward her normal table. She had already set her purse, her algebra book, and her English reading assignment down at the table when she looked up. A girl was already there. A slight look of shock, panic really crossed Talia's face as she took a step back. "Oh, hi... I didn't realize you were already sitting here." She had always been somewhat shy, and this girl looked much, much older than herself. Probably a senior. Plus, she didn't seem to be in the best mood. Talia frowned. She should look before placing her things on a table.
