Growing up, Kayla had dreamed of being a cheerleader. The sports side of things had never appealed to the girl but she’d always watch wide eyed and impressed as the gorgeous cheerleaders strutted their stuff and flipped and flew through the air like glamorous acrobats. Being a cheerleader meant you were beautiful, popular and in with the cool kids; everything Kayla aspired to in life. One day, she thought, she would be like those girls- she would be the one parading about with everybody looking up to her. Except that never did happen and now aged seventeen, Kayla found herself still swooning over the cheerleaders a little jealously instead of paying full attention to the football game she was meant to be watching.
Not fully understanding the rules of the game was somewhat restricting to watching football and Kayla felt this was a semi-excuse for focusing her attention on the pretty cheer girls on the sidelines rather than on the boys playing on the field. She was really here for Matt, having promised that she would come to one of his games to cheer him on. She was at least trying her best; following the lead from the other people watching the game and standing up to cheer when Matt’s team scored.
As the final whistle blew, Kayla couldn’t help feeling a little relieved that it was over. A promise was a promise and that’s why she’d sat through the game but it was a very long while to watch guys running backwards and forwards. Not that she’d of course tell Matt that she’d been a smidgen bored sitting there watching. She stood up as people began to mingle and exit the game and headed down towards where the players were beginning to leave.
”Matt!” she called, grinning at him and waiting for him to notice. Hopping over the barrier and probably breaking some important football rule, Kayla skipped passed the other players and towards him. ”You played great!” she smiled, deciding not to mention the fact that she’d discovered football bored her brains out. She extended her arms as she reached him and wrapped them around him, giving him a squeeze and instantly regretting it. Not having thought this one through, Kayla recoiled a little at Matt’s sweaty body. It was stupid really; did Kayla really expect him to exit a football game completely cool and in a huggable state? She let go of him, a little grossed out and laughed softly. ”Do you want me to wait until you’ve like..showered?” she asked, deciding that hanging out when he was a little less sweaty was definitely a good plan.
