Dating. Her sister was dating Teddy Caplan. Addie cursed softly under her breath as she slowed to a stop at a red light. Her finger nails tapped impatiently on the steering wheel as she waited for the light to change, and Teddy's words kept echoing through her head. Dating was probably a very lightly used term, but the principle was still there. The two were together. Teddy Caplan, her ex, was dating her sister. Her twin sister. And, as if that weren't bad enough, her sister hadn't the nerve to tell her. She glared at the light, willing it to change so that she could get home all the faster. Yes, her sister hadn't known that she had dated Teddy... or, rather, had several flings with him before breaking it off, but she still hadn't told her. And, Addie was pissed. It was pretty bad when you found out from your ex that your sister was dating him. Her sad excuse for a shopping trip had immediately come to a halt at that. Addie had left the cafe and started for home faster than she had really thought possible.
Teddy had struck a nerve. Addie didn't trust him at all. Even if he had done her no wrong when they dated, she still didn't like the boy. He just liked to sleep with girls. And, though Addie was like him, she knew her sister wasn't. Her sister had issues trusting boys, even she knew that. And, the fact that Teddy was so much like Addie herself when it came to committing, scared her the most. She didn't want him to toy with her sister's heart, and she hated the fact that Mikayla had ever let him in to begin with. "Finally!" The light turned green and Addie stepped on the gas once more, making the sharp turn onto their street. She was driving much faster than she should have, but this was important.
Whipping the car into their driveway, she shut the ignition off immediately. Climbing out of the car, Addie left her purse on the passenger seat and her coffee in the cup holder. She hadn't bought anything else and she had more pressing matters on hand. She slammed the car door and made it to the house in a rush, barely pausing long enough to unlock the door. Once inside, she slammed that shut as well. Then, she glanced around the hallway, debating on where her sister would be. Her parents car was gone, but she was pretty sure that Kayla was still here. She hadn't mentioned anything about being gone. "Mikayla!" Addie shouted, a rather bitter edge to her voice. She peaked in the kitchen and the dining area before starting on toward the den. "Mikayla!"

Kayla stared completely transfixed at the tv, a thick duvet covering her up to her chin as she lay sprawled across a range of pillows and cushions in the den. All of the family were out and this, although for some teens would have naturally led to assorted mischief, meant for Kayla a bit of peace and quiet for catching up on telly. Laying around in pyjamas and with messy hair and no makeup on was also a welcome change for the girl who spent endless hours pruning herself into something she really wasn’t.
Warm and cozy in the little nest she had built herself, Kayla felt her eyes slowly beginning to grow heavier and heavier until they flickered shut. The house was silent apart from the noise of the tv but it was still quiet and calm enough for Kayla to begin to nod off. She probably only had a few hours before Addie got back from shopping and so really should be getting up and dressed but her body seemed to have different ideas. Even though Addie had seen her bare faced and slobbing out before, she hated to think of her effortlessly beautiful twin arriving back to find Kayla looking pale and rough on the soda. After all, Kayla didn’t exactly rejoice in making herself even more inferior against her sister.
Despite feeling as though she should soon be making an effort to get ready, Kayla let sleep begin to take over her, completely relaxed in the quiet of the house. Quiet, that was, until the front door suddenly slammed and the voice of her sister pierced the emptiness. Kayla flicked open her eyes and looked at the tv, realising from the episode which was playing that she couldn’t have nodded off for many minutes at all. What was Addie doing back already? And why did she sound so scary?
Rarely did either of the twins go by their full names and the use of this, along with the undertone of anger in Addie voice, freaked Kayla out a little. She sat up and listened as her sister began to purposefully make her way through the house in search of her. The James residence was quite a large place- they were hardly the richest family in town but they still lived very comfortably in this generous house. This gave Kayla a very strong advantage in providing a few moments to try to work out what the incoming bad mood was about before her sister had navigated through the various rooms on the way to the den.
Kayla was a good girl- she didn’t get massively drunk, do drugs, sleep around or do anything else hugely controversial in her life. That’s why her sister’s urgent and pissed off tone was a little confusing at best. Kayla wracked her brains for anything she may have done and reluctantly removed her duvet to stand. Coming to a blank, she walked to the open door and peered her head out. ”Addie? What’s up?” she enquired innocently, wondering naively whether maybe this had nothing to do with her after all. [/size]

"Mikayla!" Her voice almost seemed to echo slightly as she shouted through the near empty house. Addie stormed out of the kitchen and dining area, her eyes glancing briefly up the stairs before she descended on down the hall. It was a short way to the den, but for some reason it seemed to be extra long today. It was moments like these when Addie cursed the idea of having a large house. It was impossible to find someone in a timely manner! With each passing step, Addie could feel her anger building slightly. The conversation that she had with Teddy just minutes before just seemed to taunt her. She needed to figure things out.
She glanced in and out of the various doors in the short hallway between the den and the stairs. Her sister was no where to be found. Addie was just about to shout again, when Kayla peered out of the den. Addie abruptly turned, a rather icy glare making its way to her face. She took a deep breath, trying to remain calm. "What's up? I was hoping you could tell me that, Mikayla. Why the hell didn't you tell me?" Her voice only seemed to drop in volume, holding the same bitter tone that it had before. Addie didn't care, though. Mikayla should have told her that she had a boyfriend. Especially since that boyfriend was her ex-boyfriend! It was pretty bad when you found out from your ex-boyfriend, that you hated, that your twin sister was dating him. In fact, it was almost like a fairly hard punch in the gut in Addie's eyes.
She took a few steps toward the den now, almost as if she intended to prevent her sister from dodging out of the conversation. Adelaide paused at the doorway, her gaze remaining fixed on her twin. Mikayla seemed so innocent, and that just annoyed Addie all the more. "More importantly - What the hell were thinking?" Her voice was rising with each passing word and Addie shoved her first against the wall. Her sister probably hadn't the slightest clue as to what she was referring to, but this didn't register with Addie. She was too frustrated -mad, even- with the situation to bother with details. She was pissed.

If looks could kill, Kayla felt she may well have just been dealt a fatal blow. She blinked a look of confusion as Addie glared her icey stare and began to rant at her, spewing words which made absolutely no sense to Mikayla. Didn’t tell her what..what exactly was Addie so angry about? Kayla felt suddenly nervy as she stared across at her sister’s pissed off expression. The girl didn’t react well to people being upset with her and the fact it was her sister; and that she was completely unsure what exactly she had done wrong, sent Kayla into a bit of a panic.
Adelaide James was certainly not the sort of girl whom one wanted to make an enemy of- sharp tongued and self-confident, Kayla was quite sure her twin could verbally rip an enemy to shreds and then walk away quite unfazed. Thankfully Kayla never seemed to be at the receiving end of her sister’s temper.. that was of course until this moment. Whilst she knew that Addie would never completely go to town on her sister, the tone of her voice still made Kayla a little wary.
Now cornered somewhat, Mikayla gulped as Addie continued, her anger seeming to rise and rise until her fist slammed against the wall. Kayla flinched suddenly and looked at her twin with scared, wide eyes. “What the hell were you thinking?” Her sister’s words began to process slowly as Kayla formed a semi-explanation in her mind. The only thing which she could possibly think of was Teddy. It didn’t make full sense- how Addie would know about it and why it would rile her up so much were questions left unanswered, yet it seemed to be the only thing Kayla could think of which she had done ‘wrong’, so to speak.
Because she wasn’t entirely sure her choice of sleeping partner was the focus of this rant, Kayla decided to feign ignorance, not wanting to admit to being with Teddy and add to the drama if she was it trouble for something else entirely. ”I don’t know what you’re talking about Addie” she uttered, her voice high pitched with worry. She flashed her best unaware and naive expression at her sister, hoping she would take pity a little and calm down.
