it had been a really long week for jerry. after cleaning his house, and working on a few cars that needed to be fixed, he was whooped. but he knew he needed to keep doing things to help roll money in. the only good part about his constant work schedule, was that it was helping him keep in shape. when he had extra time he hit the gym, though this week had been a busy one for him. jerry promised that he would go and help clean the church so that it would look okay for the next week. jerry didn't mind doing it since his mom had raised him to always help others, and he was a religious boy who wanted to help others around him. it was one step closer to making his mom proud of him.
jerry opened the big doors to the church, and made his way over to the supplies closet. turning on the lights, he grabbed the things that he needed. the church wasn't a small one, and sometimes it took him around four hours to clean, if he wanted it to be done right. jerry stiffled a small yawn, heading over to an outlet with the small vaccuum that the church kept in the closet. it wasn't the best vacuum, but it worked. turning on the vacuum, he made his way around the carpeted areas, trying not to miss anything. even as a volunteer he wanted to work like he was getting paid for it. after finishing the vacuuming, he took out the broom and began sweeping the kitchen the church had when they cooked for certain occasions. yawning a little, he sweeped up a big pile of dust, sweeping it into the pan and throwing it away. jerry then made his way over to the fridge, taking out a can of soda. the pastor had told him that when he was there he was free to drink or eat whatever he wished. cracking the can open, he took a long gulp, setting the can down onto the counter. rubbing his eyes a little, he looked out the window for a moment, to see a girl making her way into the church. confused, he made his way to the door, waiting for the girl.

Church had to be one of her favorite place. Back in Britain she studied in Christian boarding school, where religion was strictly given very much importance. From that background she was able to lean on the religious belief and found herself admiring all the morals of Christianity. Most of her life was based upon them. She wouldn't drink, or smoke and always keep herself away from the bad company. She had laid a limit for herself and would never cross it as crossing the limit was like a sin for her. She had forbidden herself from doing anything that was bad. She was one of those few girl who appeared to be in the good books of her teachers at the boarding school who would blindly trust on Scarlett and she felt honored and was proud of herself. The only bad thing she had ever done was she lied, not just to her parents but basically to everyone. Katie wasn't her own daughter but her best friend's daughter who died who died leaving behind the baby girl in Scarlett's care. And today, Scarlett was only keeping up with the promise she gave to her best friend on her death bed that she would always be there for Katie and take care for her. If only her parents weren't too harsh on her skin and utter disgrace, she may not have come up with such a lie. it was all their fault, but she was definitely not suffering. it was far much better to get disowned by parents who were shamelessly cheating on each other from past six years than staying with them. if she could remember she was too young when she discovered that and chose to go away to Britain, But now she was back, and she had no idea why. The memories of the golden days she spend with her best friend had been taunting her and only to escape the horror she moved back to USA, all on her own.
it had been only a month since she moved in the town. the second two weeks had been the most tensed time of her life, as she ran out of money and had no place to go. All she did for the past two weeks was drop her CV at every newspaper magazine office, go for numerous interviews and work day and night as a waitress in order to earn as much as she could in order to afford the rent and eatable. sometimes she was worried that she would starve herself and it was the end. in such hopeless time, only church and worship made her feel better. luckily she was appointed as a columnist for the fashion magazine. fashion wasn't her plus point but the job was to earn money to keep her away from starving. As she got her job, she promised herself that she would spend as much as time possible in the church and volunteered herself for cleaning the Church over every weekend. She had been doing it back in Britain and today, was on her way to the church with Katie. The bag on her shoulder was filled with eatable for Katie as Scarlett wasn't sure when she'd get back home. Cleaning the whole church could take her hours.
Katie told her that she would clean as well. Scarlett had Katie in her arm as she carried her till the entrance of the church and only let her down when she was at the door. There was a boy standing at the door. She walked to wards him holding onto Katie's little hand wrapped around her finger, wondering what the boy was doing around 9am? it was way too early. She stopped at the door and smiled politely. '' Greetings. she spoke in her British accent that never left her. '' I've volunteered for cleaning the church. Mind if I join in? '' she assumed he was there to do the cleaning as well, just like her. otherwise she didn't see why he was there. '' And if you're here for praying, I promise not to cause any disturbance. '' she promised. Katie reached for the broom and walked to wards Scarlett and handed it to her. She said ' I'm cleaning too. Cleaning too. I am! '' she jumped and Scarlett patted her head. ''Yes darling. of course you're here to help me. She woke up around 8am so as to cometo the church and help me '' she smiled at Katie. Katie woke up early and didn't go for babysitting and instead asked Scarlett to take her to the church and she would help her for cleaning. There was no way Scarlett could say no to her little doll. '' by the way, I'm Scarlett Lerman, and this is Katie'' before she could complete Katie held out her hand . '' I'm Katie. Sir. it is n-ni-ce to meet you'' Scarlett smiled at Katie . She was too little but very very intelligent, even at such a young age.
