Alexia was running. Her feet were carrying her away from him. Far, far away. But she wasn't running fast enough and he caught her. His fingers dug into her wrist as the momentum propelled her forward and her wrist jerked. She let out a pain-filled cry as she hit the ground outside the manor. Her chest was heaving and her breath came in sharp, ragged gasps. She'd landed on a rock somewhere in her back and pain shot through her spine. He was standing over her. His wicked smile twisting up the corners of his pierced lips. He was still holding her arm and jerked her to her feet. She cried out in pain as he shoved her down to her knees. Her face went into the ground from the weight of his shoe on her neck. Muffled shrieks were wasted as dirt caked in her mouth, choking her. Then he had her hair, pulling her up again.
"Though you could get away, huh?! I don't remember giving you premission to leave the house, Alexia Grace. You know the punishment for this." His voice was an evil hiss somewhere above her.
She was pulled back into the house by her hair. He had her now, in his grasp. His hands on her shoulders, steering her back into the bedroom. The door slammed, rattling the walls. Then he was shoving her, grabbing at her. And it all went black. She woke up sometime after he'd fallen asleep beside her, wrapped up in the sheets and snoring like an infant. Alexia creeped quietly out of the bed and pulled on her clothes. Her jewelry still intact, somehow. She reapplied her makeup and made sure he was asleep. She'd catch hell for it later, probably see the same punishment she just had, but she needed to get away. She slipped on her espadrilles and left the house. As soon as she was off the property she began running, her body shaking and her skin on fire. She felt dirty and sad and everything hurt. Her arms were bruised by his hands and her clothes were ripped by his anger.
Alexia managed to get to the carnival. She breathed in the smells and took in the sights but still wasn't able to relax. She slipped into the massive crowd and tried to blend in. Though when a hand reached out and touched her she jumped and ran away. She find a quiet corner behind the photo booths and curled up against the back of one. Tears streamed down her face. Any passerby could tell something was very, very wrong with this girl. Alexia's black hair fell over her blue eyes and hid them from sight but soft whimpers and sniffles came from her throat. Her body shook as she hoped he wouldn't find her.
