S
alem had been busy all day long. He had been called early by his manager saying they were going to be doing a string of shows in Seattle over the weekend and that he needed to pack up and leave immediately. Salem had shown up early that morning and kissed Cai goodbye, saying he'd call him as soon as they got into their hotel rooms. It absolutely killed Salem to leave his one, true love. But he had to pay the bills and really, he was in contract with those blasted record executives. So he'd given a nearly-teary farewell and loaded up into his car. Salem had been slaving since eleven that afternoon with set practices, meetings, press conferences. He'd even had to give a particularly anxiety-riddled interview with a magazine about the new album being released soon. All in all Salem had been having a busy day. He did as he promised, calling Cai as soon as he got into his hotel room, and then was off again. He didn't even get to eat a normal lunch before soundcheck! Salem stood infront of the mirror in the dressing room. He turned to the left, trying to figure out how he was going to look at different angles on the stage. He sighed softly to himself. His shocking green eyes took in the outfit they'd stuffed him in for the show. His upper body was clad in nothing but a black, leather jacket. And his bottom half was dressed in a pair of black, leather pants that looked painted on. Black, studded low boots covered his feet. His normally messy, haphazard brown-black hair was curled prettily around his pale face, accenting his angular jaw. His green eyes were rimmed in thick, black eyeliner which made them seen almost unearthly. Salem sighed again and made a frowning face at his own reflection. Sometimes he questioned if music was worth being painted up and primped and prodded. And most of all he was now wondering if it was worth leaving Cai or not. He made a soft whimper as he thought of his boyfriend. His heart ached for that boy. And his silly, bashful ways. It was as though someone was taking his heart and running it through a wringer. He pouted out his lips and then scowled as he realized they'd painted them with a light, pink gloss. He lit up a cigarette with a shaky hand and took a few, relaxing puffs. It was nights like this he was glad he'd never given up the habit.
Mattias came into the back room and motioned with his head towards the stage. Well, it looked like the city of Seattle was reading for Killing Loneliness. Salem took a deep breath and walked towards the stage, forcing his hands to stop shaking. As soon as he stepped onto the stage it felt as though the earth had begun a rollercoaster effect. His eyes fuzzed in and out and a loud, rushing erupted in his ears. There were so many people! Way more than what he was accustomed to. There had to be over a thousand people in the large field infront of the stage. Salem took a sharp intake of breath and froze like a deer in headlights. Mattias shoved him softly towards the mic. It gave a shriek of feedback as he bumped into it, but he recovered. Salem closed his eyes for a moment to remember the set list. He cleared his throat softly and gave a shy half-wave to the crowd. People erupted into cheers for him. Salem's shoulders relaxed a little as he took the mic off of the stand.
"Hi there, uh, people. We're Killing Loneliness. And the first song we'll be playing for you tonight was written for a very special boy. It's a new song that was completely a few days ago titled 'Beautiful'. I hope you enjoy this...
Just one look into your eyes
One look and I'm crying
'Cause you're so beautiful
Just one kiss and I'm alive
One kiss and I'm ready to die
'Cause you're so beautiful
Just one touch and I'm on fire
One touch and I'm crying
'Cause you're so beautiful
Just one smile and I'm wild
One smile and I'm ready to die
'Cause you're so beautiful
and oh you're so beautiful
My darling
Oh you're so beautiful
You're so beautiful
Oh my baby
You're so beautiful
And you're so beautiful
Oh my darling
Oh my baby
And you're so beautiful" He finished the song with tears in his green eyes
Salem got through three more songs. As he was finishing up his fourth song one of the tour managers was frantically waving at him from the side stage. He finished the song and excused himself, telling the crowd they'd be taking a ten minute break. As he headed backstage the look of panick in the girl's eyes made him nervous. He asked what was wrong and was informed Cai was in the hospital. Before the woman could even finish explaining what was wrong Salem began freaking out. He grabbed his keys and bolted for his car. Forget the show, there would be more. All he cared about right now was getting to Cai. He didn't know what was wrong, or even what to expect, but he was going to get there. Salem began sobbing as soon as he merged onto the interstate. The tears were loud and scraped his throat raw with sobs. He couldn't lose Cai. Cai was all he had. The reason the sun rose in the mornings, the reason the sky was blue. Cai was the reason he lived and breathed and sang. He gunned it as fast as his ratty, old car would go. He had to get to the hospital! As his drove his brain instantly began the 'what if' questions. What if Cai was dying? What if Cai had been put on life support? What if there was nothing they could do? What if he lost him? What if, what if, what if? Salem's green eyes were a mess of smeared eyeliner and tears as he got off the exit back into Lipton.
Salem drove as fast as he could until he pulled into the parking lot. He locked his car and bolted for the entrance. In his ridiculous outfit he was sure he looked like a crazy person. As soon as he found out Cai's room number he got the elevator upstairs. Salem slowed down as he entered the hallway where Cai's room was. His face crumpled. Was he ready to see his love hooked up to machines and wires? He turned his eyes to the floor and tried to catch his breath. After several minutes of debating his feet began moving. His hand shook violently as he grabbed the knob leading into the hospital room. Taking a deep breath he opened the door. When he caught sight of Cai he made a pitful squeak and began sobbing again. He ran to his boyfriend's bedside, sliding to his knees. He took Cai's hand and pressed his forehead to it, sobbing.
"Cai, Cai! My love, my breath, my darling. Who did this to you?! I'm so sorry I ever left! Please, do not die on me. You are all I have left in this cold, god-forsaken world." Salem managed to gasp through his tears.
