Carly's sat at her desk at the police station, shuffling through papers when her partner walked by and told her they had gotten a call from a residence, talking about a fire. She stood up and shrugged on her jacket, wising she didn't have to wear the light material. The days were growing warmer, but she needed something to cover the gun strapped around her shoulder. She jogged lightly out of the building, trying not to waste her time as she climbed in the police cruiser and made her way to the scene. Her job included going out a lot, though more often then not she didn't deal with anything to serious. A couple robberies, assaults, but thankfully there wasn't currently a serial killer prowling in Lipton.
She drove with the siren on, her partner in the passenger seat. It was the second one shed been assigned during her time working for the police department, her first partner having been shot and seriously wounded during a shoot out that took place about a year ago. The same incident where Carly shot down the young teen an started caring around the biggest regret in her life. Or was it really much of a regret? She knew that she did what she had to do, but that thought didn't console her much. Her hands tensed on the wheel, but her partner didn't think anytime of it. She pushed the thoughts to the back of her head as she closed up on the scene, having seen the smoke from a further distance.
She parked along the curb and jogged up to the apartment building, peering up at the top corner where smoke billowed out and the windows were black with soot. From what she could tell, most of the flames had been extinguished, and had been told that no one had been seriously injured. She did her thing, asking questions about how it started and making sure it was indeed an accident, observing the victims of the fire closely to see if they may be hiding something. Carly went through the usual protocol; it seemed the usually rogue cop wasn't stepping out of line tonight. Her partner took care of the rest, and Carly walked away from the scene.
She stood a few feet from the chaotic infusion of police officers, cars, fireman, and bystanders. She pulled a pack of cigarettes from her back pocket and lit one, bringing it to her lips and inhaling, hoping her partner didn't see. He constantly gave her hell for her smoking habits. She looked around to see if anyone was noticing her absence, and smiled a bit at who she did see. "Speaking of hell" she muttered.

Aleksi asked, and eyed the cigarette reproachfully. "I see you're being your sensitive self, as always. Why don't you just build a bonfire in their yard?" Aleksi asked with a grin. He looked back across at the woman, and then back to Carly. Truth was, Aleksi could have done with a cigarette too, though he wouldn't admit it right now, nor would he be caught smoking on the job. He very rarely had a smoke; it wasn't exactly a brilliant idea for someone who was supposed to be physically well kept.[/ul]

Carly met a lot of different people while working for law enforcement, from criminals to co-workers to simple bystanders. She honesty had never met so many various personalities and been confronted to different perspectives before her job, but could never decide whether that was a good or bad thing. She could go without the homicidal sociopaths, but there were a few decent people she had met. Like Aleski. She had to admit his happy go lucky personality wasn’t too bad to work with, though the teasing could annoy her on an off day. However, she usually she took the joke.
She rolled her eyes but couldn’t help smile at his joke about thinking of home. She had to give credit when credit was due. “Watch out Haskin, I might have to take you downtown” she jokingly threatened this often, but was pretty sure they both doubted that she’d ever do that. Unless, of course, if Aleski broke the law. She had a feeling if she ever got a call that he did that she’d be the first to respond.
Carly raised an eyebrow at his reproachful look and shrugged “Just trying to give you more opportunities to heroically rescue damsels in distress. God knows you need the help.” she joked. She had thought about lighting a cigarette being insensitive, which was why she had moved away from the mayhem of the scene. She doubted the woman even noticed though, since she had paramedics checking on her and her partner was talking to her, jotting things down on a pad. There was really no point, since it seemed to be an accident, but nevertheless they had been called in and were just doing their jobs. Carly had tried once she was bumped up from desk duty to quit smoking, since there could be predicaments when she would need to be in tip top condition, but quitting was easier said then done.
She noted how the husband was becoming increasingly agitated, and couldn’t help but appear a little weary. The last thing she wanted was for him to strike out, and half expected it. It probably wouldn’t get that drastic, but Carly had a few shares of someone becoming impatient and become threatening. Usually she was on the receiving end when something like this happened and someone just caved, and it was, to say the least, wasn’t a nice feeling. Thankfully she was usually on her toes.

, and had to act like one. However, in situations like this, there were often three or more different teams working on a scene. Aleksi was used to seeing the cops and equally used to seeing the EMTs. The three different divisions had become acquainted with each other, and Aleksi knew a good deal of them quite well. He'd met Carly last year, and something about her personality irked him, but in the sense that he enjoyed it. They teased each other without any serious maliciousness, it was all in jest, and Aleksi genuinely liked her. Aleksi considered her a competent cop, although he'd never admit that to her. Some part of Aleksi half wished he'd become a cop instead of a firefighter, but the majority of his thoughts rested on the fact he'd made a good decision. He didn't feel like being a cop was enough excitement; sure, you get the occasional moments of action, but for the most part there was a lot more danger in being a firefighter. Both professions were dangerous, but Aleksi's mind had told him he'd made the right decision with his career choice. "Something tells me you just wanna get me in handcuffs, am I right?" Aleksi asked, one eyebrow raised and smirking at her. "Honestly, Tompson, just ask," he joked and looked back at the man on the phone. He was shouting even louder now and Aleksi too began to wonder if he was going to get a little hostile to deal with. "I appreciate your concern over my damsel in distress quota, but I feel I can fill it without your help," he smiled. "So, where's the poor son of a bitch who's stuck with you tonight, because if you're here there's got to be a good cop, right?"Aleksi kept his eye on the hostile husband, and he glanced back at Carly, and then back to the man, who was making his way towards the house. Aleksi frowned and looked at Carly, a simple gesture to show he was concerned. "Hey, no, Mr Bay," Aleksi called, heading after the husband as he walked toward the house. "You can't go in there yet, we're still-" Aleksi reached a hand out to stop the man, but was pushed roughly aside. "Mr Bay," he yelled.[/ul]

Carly pushed the sleeves of her jacket up, wondering how dreadful it must be to wear the thick, fireproof uniforms the fireman and woman wore in the heat. Carly herself was wearing the blue, police uniform that was at least not as thick. The yard was full of different uniforms, a fusion of different colors and careers, all of which were dangerous ones to pursue. She had wondered, a few times while be on the scene of more harmful, maliciousness fires that were more alarming then this one, just how risky it was to be a part of that career. Carly, quite shamefully, used to be the kind of person that didn’t think much of such things unless it was brought to her attention. Once she graduated high school and joined the academy, however, her way of thinking changed a bit.
"Keep talkin and a may bring you in for sexual harassment" she said, faking seriousness except for the joking glint in her eyes. She smiled slyly as he mentioned his damsel in distress quota. "Whatever floats your boat, Haskin" she said, as if she doubted he could. On the contrary, she had a feeling he already had a start on filling that quota. She chuckled "The same son of a bitch that's been stuck with me the past year." she said, pointing out her partner. Between the two cops, Carly was the one always straying a bit out of line, but her partner was the more intimidating one.
Carly understood his gesture of concern, feeling even more weary now she wasn't the only one a bit obviously aware of the husbands growing hostility. She hoped the night wouldn't end in a fight, and gave Aleski a simple nod to show she understood, her eyes not straying from the man. Once she saw Aleski heading after Mr. Bay, she put out her cigarette, flicked it into a trash can, and followed in pursuit. She stood a few paces back, seeing what Mr. Bays course of actions would be after he was instructed not to enter the building. She didn't like what she saw.
She saw him roughly shove Haskin aside; a big no no. Carly put herself in front of Mr. Bay, one hand rested on her belt that contained her stun gun and another hand reaching out to put a hand on Mr. Bays arm, saying in a voice full of authority "Mr. Bay, I'd ask you to calm down please". Would he dare put his hands on a law enforcement officer? Turns out he would, not only did he shoved her back, he shoved her hard. It made Carly take a few steps back, and anger started to build inside her. She didn't appreciate having someone put her hands on her, and what happened next happened quickly.
Carly reached for Mr. Bays arm and pulled it behind his back, a technique usually used to enable someone from fighting and to slap on a pair of cuffs. However, Carly just leaned forward and said condescendingly "I understand this is stressful for you, but if you become a threat to anyone else you will be arrested to assault. So I suggest you keep your hands to yourself" she wasn't hurting him in the hold and was just making a point, as well as restraining him from making anymore bold moves. When she released him her partner steered him away, while Carly clenched her fist. Damn, Mr. Bay just had to go make a scene, but she was just thankful it didn't get to serious. She suddenly remembered the conversation she had been having having with Aleski, and glanced over at him. "One point for Tompson" she said, a small grin on her face, though secretly the weariness from before was still there, as well as some newly gained frustration.
[oh dear, sorry if this is long and rambly xD]
