[/size]Becca's heart thundered away in her chest. Today she had made the decision she needed to tell Demetri about her pregnancy. After all, she was four and a half months along and was showing now. It wasn't like she could continue to hide it forever, right? At sixteen weeks along her stomach was showing up as a small, yet still visible, "curve". No one, not even her best friend Franchessca, knew. Big clothes had been previously hugging her body, hiding every new bulge from prying eyes. With her parents away for the weekend she could see no better time to invite him over. A shuddering breath escaped her pink lips as she looked at her belly in the mirror. She gingerly pulled up her pajama shirt and stared at the baby bump. She tentatively reached out her hand and ran her fingers gently over it. A soft movement in her stomach incited a gasp from her mouth as she stared with confusion. The baby had kicked for the first time. She cupped her hands around the part of her stomach sticking over her pajama bottoms. She gently stroked her belly once more and got another kick.
"H-hello in there, wee one. I-I'm your mo-mommy. I am --" Her breath hitched as the baby kicked furiously as she spoke, "Well, you're going to be a good little rockstar, won't you? Strong legs!"
Becca's face broke from the perpetual look of worry she'd worn the last four and a half months to a bright, beaming grin. Her hand stayed poised on her stomach as she looked at herself once more in the mirror. She'd always thought the whole 'glowing' term people said about pregnant women was a bunch of hogwash. But now... now she could see what they'd meant. Maybe it took accepting the fact you were carrying a new life and bringing a living, breathing thing into the world before you got to see that glow. Becca finally broke her gaze from the mirror and turned to get dressed. Most of her clothes had become quite strained against her growing tummy, but maybe that's what she needed tonight? She giggled to herself as she began going through her clothes. Tonight would be a good night.
A loud, harmonious thunder rolled overhead as Becca dug through her closet. She grabbed her new Marilyn Manson shirt and a pair of black jeans with slices of pink, floral material in the legs. After she changed into her clothes she slipped on her jewelry and her converse. Becca made her way into the kitchen and pulled the veggie chick'n nuggets she'd been cooking out of the oven. As she laid them on the top of the stove the lights flickered as a howling wind screamed around the house. She knitted her brows in confusion and flipped on the TV to the weather station. They were calling for heavy rains, high winds, and possible tornadoes. She touched her belly again and headed into the living room to get things set up for the dinner she'd made.
She figured she would make things romantic and have a lovely little dinner set aside for her and Dems. Something to make the mood even more special for when she announced the pregnancy. As scared as she was she was positive Dems would be estactic, if not a little worried, at the prospect of being a dad. Yes, they were young. Things were going to be rocky for them. But she had his love and was carrying his child, that's all that mattered, right? As Becca set out two wine glasses and filled them with Cheerwine (a non-alcoholic cherry soda that resembled blood), a heavy downpour began outside the house. She plated the vegetarian chick'n nuggets, some brocolli caserole, and mac n cheese then laid them on the coffee table she had set up with candleabras and blood red table accents. Becca bustled around the kitchen and laid out the cheesecake she'd made before she cleaned up the pans.
Suddenly there was a loud crash and all the lights went out. Becca screamed as a banging sound hit outside. She looked out the window to see lightning and high winds making the rain go sideways. She dialed Demetri's number on her cellphone, sobbing out of fear, and got his voicemail. She panicked at not being able to get ahold of him before pressing the phone against her mouth. She sat down in the floor and listened as more bangs signaled things flying around outside.
"De-Demetri! I'm scared, please get here soon! I do-don't kn--" She screamed as a sharp noise hit the roof, "I dunno what's going on out there, but please come to me!"
As she hung up there was a strange quiet and she stumbled through the house until she was at the door to the basement. Becca grabbed a candle and headed downstairs, cowering on an old, unused chair in the corner. She hoped Dems would make it safely and quickly. She didn't like the feeling of dread she was having, nor the silence outside.
