And as I drive tonight, west coast sky, daring me to try, I feel alive tonight. he said to her. "I get it. Well... no, I don't, but whatever, you don't have to explain yourself to me," he told her. Taking another drink from the bottle of pear cider he got to his feet and headed towards the bedroom door. Teddy figured there was no point in them staying up in the bedroom now. He just couldn't get his mind around what Kayla had said and what her reasoning behind this was. Teddy was never going to understand girls - mostly because he was a guy, and being unable to comprehend the elusive female mind escaped every one of his gender. Least of all when they presented themselves in such a complicated fashion like Kayla was doing right now. "Do you want me to take you home?" Teddy called as he started to head down the stairs. Those were pretty big words, and the more he thought about those words the more it suggested he'd only been interested in Kayla for what he'd presumed he was going to get out of the arrangement, which wasn't entirely true. Still, Teddy wasn't even sure what was going through Kayla's head right now. [/ul]

We’ll make things right,
we’ll feel it all tonight. Kayla let her eyes meet Teddy again as he spoke. Hearing the words "it’s okay", the corners of her lips raised just slightly, the tiniest wave of reassurance going through her. It was to be short lived though and her heart soon sank again as he continued. For a second there she thought he was going to tell her it was fine, they would wait, it was all okay. Of course it wasn’t okay though, it was completely screwed up beyond repair. Evidenced by the fact he was now heading out of the bedroom.
Kayla watched him leave the room, her eyes still pinned on the door even once he was out of sight, as if with some naive hope that he would return. With the next thing Teddy said though, any of this hope was dashed. The big wide eyes she had aimed so willingly at the door for him to return now closed, holding back the tears. She’d expected him to react with confusion and maybe frustration but these words still cut deep. They proved to her everything she had been trying to convince herself against- that Teddy really was only after one thing- and if she couldn’t offer that, there was little point her being there.
How stupid she had been into kidding herself that this was something more, that maybe-just maybe- he saw Kayla as more than just another prospective notch on his bedpost. She stood up, wiping a solitary tear from her cheek before heading in the direction Teddy had left in. ”Yeah, if that’s what you want..” she said quietly, making no effort to hide the sadness in her words. It wasn’t what she wanted but she didn’t really have much say in this anymore. She’d messed this up, well and truly. And all because of something so ridiculous- it would be laughable if it wasn’t so heartbreaking.

And as I drive tonight, west coast sky, daring me to try, I feel alive tonight. Teddy asked, incredulously. It wasn't said in an angry way, but it was full of confusion and slight streak of regret and guilt. He didn't like the fact he was the reason that Mikayla was crying right now. "Did I do something?" Teddy questioned, walking back up the staircase towards her. This, he thought, would be a prime opportunity for her to push him down the stairs if she so desired. Part of him imagined that he deserved it, because it was becoming increasingly apparent that he'd probably done something. He held the bottle of pear cider in his hand, wondering if it her condition right now was something to do with the alcohol he'd offered her. Maybe Kayla was against the idea of them drinking right now? Was she tipsy off those few sips already? Questions ran through Teddy's mind "Seriously, Kayla, have I done something wrong?" Teddy asked. Was she going to get angry at him because he couldn't figure out what he'd done? He really hoped not. Teddy liked Kayla, enough so that he didn't want to take her home right now, enough so he'd turned around on the stairs, ready to apologise for whatever crazy thing he'd unknowingly done to her right now. He paused - he wondered if she knew about... No, she couldn't possibly know anything about his previous relationships. It had to be something else.[/ul]

We’ll make things right,
we’ll feel it all tonight. Kayla stopped as Teddy turned, slightly shocked by the look of anger across his face. It was almost intimidating the fact he was so pissed off from her just saying no. His face quickly softened though into a look of confusion and slight pity. God did she feel ridiculous for crying right now. She just couldn’t help it though- the only nice, seemingly genuine boy she had got close to since her scumbag ex and she had screwed it up. She wiped her eyes, trying to compose herself a little more as he spoke. Having a sob wasn’t going to sort this out, but then she didn’t think she could cope with the one thing that would sort this out-telling him the truth.
Kayla chewed on the inside of her lip as he fired questions at her, now coming back up the stairs towards her. Her eyes sparkled sadly as she looked at him, now pretty much level height. ”No Teddy..” she said almost pleadingly, feeling bad that he was blaming himself for her fuck up. She hadn’t really considered that he would think it was something he had done, instead presuming that he would simply put it down to her being super indecisive and possibly slightly loony. ”Its not you, it’s me” she continued softly, shaking her head. There was possibly not a more cliché thing she could have said but it was true. He’d done nothing wrong, it was only her worries about what he might think or do which had freaked her out.
Looking down to the floor for a few moments, Kayla tried to pull her thoughts together, really not having a clue what to say. He wanted an explanation, he deserved an explanation but she really wasn’t sure she could tell him the real one. She licked her lips slowly and then looked back up, gazing into his eyes. Confused blue eyes which urged her to say something, to give some sort of reason for why she would push him away. ”I’m just scared” she finally said in a voice little louder than a whisper. Each word now had to be pondered carefully and Kayla was scared the tears were threatening to fall again. ”I don’t want you to laugh” she admitted softly. Despite this making her sound like she had even more major body hang ups than she in fact did, this seemed like the most honest answer she could give him right now. Kayla looked passed him, the pressure of this admission making it difficult to keep eye contact. Whether that would suffice as an explanation she was unsure, but that was the best Kayla could give to Teddy at this moment.

And as I drive tonight, west coast sky, daring me to try, I feel alive tonight. Teddy asked, one hand on the side of the stairs, the other gripping the bottle of alcohol tightly. "Laugh? Me?" Teddy questioned. Did she really think that little of him? Assume that he was going to laugh at her for whatever reason? Here was the guy who'd turned down the opportunity of drunken shags in a gazebo and the girl who'd come onto him so strongly was worried he was going to laugh. It sounded like some kind of joke. He glanced away from her, shaking his head and then turned back to look up at her. "If this is about the third boob you've been hiding, I actually think it's super attractive," he informed her, breaking into a smile. "Come downstairs, we'll get something to eat," Teddy told her, he took a drink from the bottle and turned around. He reached the bottom and glanced back up at her before he continued on into the kitchen, shaking his head. He was beginning to understand what had caused Kayla to act like she had, but he wasn't going to admit it to her right now. Drinking from the bottle again he pulled open the fridge, made a face and slammed it again. Looked like it was going to be a take out for them, considering everything was bare. The fact the house was barely lived in meant there was very little food there, aside from the occasional packets of crisps or whatever Teddy and his uncle used for hangover cures. Taking a deep sigh he turned around to look at the stairs, pausing to see if Mikayla was coming down.[/ul]

We’ll make things right,
we’ll feel it all tonight. Hearing Teddy question her worries made Kayla feel even worse about the whole situation. She was basically telling him right now that she thought he was nothing more than a shitbag who would encourage her into bed and then laugh about it. Of course she didn’t truly believe this but her reactions and her explanations would certainly seem to suggest this idea to him. Kayla knew Teddy wasn’t a shitbag. A shitbag would have screwed the drunken girl and left her to fend for herself, not helped her back home with most of her dignity intact. A shitbag would be kicking this emotional wreck out of the house rather than trying to apologise for something he hadn’t done. Kayla sighed, stuck in a mental battle with herself. However much she knew Teddy was a decent guy, she really couldn’t think that him finding out her secret would end anything other than badly. Maybe he wouldn’t laugh, but he would at least think it weird, think she was fake or even more of an insecure freak than he did already.
At his remark about her third boob however Kayla couldn’t help but let out a laugh. ”Teddy!” she squeaked with an expression that showed her to be both amused and mortified by that comment. He was at least vaguely along the right lines, she pondered. She let her face soften into a thoughtful gaze for a few moments, trying to work this boy out. He had a sense of humour alright, but how far he would take that she was unsure. Kayla seemed to be presuming that his sense of humour would entail ripping her self esteem to shreds but the more she thought about this, the sillier it seemed. He teased and he taunted but it all seemed to have been done in good heart. Thinking about things now in a calmer frame of mind, she wondered if her assumptions had been a bit strong. Still, it was a bit too late to take things back now.
With his suggestion of something to eat, Kayla let her lips curve up into a small smile, her eyes still displaying a slight sadness. She stood still for a few moments as Teddy made his way downstairs, figuring her semi-explanation must have gone some of the way to repairing the mess she had made of this evening. She doubted that things would go back to as they were before- she had most likely made things way too awkward for that- but at least he wasn’t so pissed off that he was trying to get rid of her. As Teddy looked back at her, Kayla snapped out of her daydream and followed him slowly down into the kitchen. She took up a leaning position against one of the counters, watching him as he seemed to give up in his hunt for anything edible. ”It’s fine” she smiled softly. She was a bit peckish but hardly starving and was too polite to make him order something just on her behalf. If he was going to get something for himself then fair enough, but she didn’t want to make him feel like he had to get something for her. She tucked a loose piece of blonde hair behind her ear, hoping she didn’t look too red and tear stained.

mentioned his parents. Teddy had long since found a coping mechanism for life, and it was simply just humor. He laughed his way through everything - through awkward moments, through emotional moments and through angry moments. Life was too short to take seriously all the time. Despite this, he wasn't the kind of guy who was about to treat Kayla badly - sure, he wasn't exactly a saint but he wasn't what he'd consider a jerk either. Teddy tried to do good and treat the people in his life with a certain amount of respect. They deserved that much, just like Kayla did. He slammed a cupboard when he realised that everything in the house was virtually alcohol or purely inedible. "Vodka is a kind of food, right?" He joked, and walked across the kitchen to scoop up a menu. "No, seriously, I'm gonna grab a pizza," he told her, looking around for the house phone so he could make the call. "What do you want?" he asked. Kayla was a guest in this excuse for a house, so Teddy thought it was only right to get some food for the both of them. "We can watch a movie," he added, finally setting his eyes on the phone, hidden to the side of the toaster. He picked it up and handed her the menu with his other hand and smiled at her. He had some money in his pocket, but he knew his uncle wouldn't mind if he dipped into some of the money he kept on the fireplace in the living room. Money wasn't really an option for his uncle, but Teddy wasn't the kind of person who revelled in the zeros on the end of his uncle's bank account - it wasn't really his business what his uncle earned. Teddy had enough to keep him happy in the world, and that was all he needed. He worked a weekend job too, but that hardly paid anything, it was just to keep him busy when he had nothing else to do. It wasn't fun facing up to that after a night of partying though. [/ul]

We’ll make things right,
we’ll feel it all tonight. ”Yeah vodka is just potatoes right? she shrugged with a smile. Well, not technically true, maybe vodka and potatoes weren’t exactly interchangeable. You were fortunately unlikely to get absolutely hammered, pass out and wake up in a pile of your own vomit after a potato binge, but hey, close enough. Regardless of the fact he was joking, Kayla did come over feeling a little ill at the idea of Vodka. Partying was definitely not an everyday thing for her and the idea of drinking again so soon turned her stomach, despite her not being too horrifically hungover. So at the suggestion of pizza, she gave a little relieved smile. Unlike the more questionable concept of vodka, that was definitely food.
”Oh, seriously, just anything without pineapple- I’m quite easy” she replied, slightly raising her eyebrow at her own unintentional innuendo and taking the menu anyway to flick through. It was an unfortunate choice of wording and she betted that Teddy wished she really was as easy as she had just made out, rather than having just gone completely frigid on him. She looked down at the menu a little uncomfortably at these awkward thoughts reappearing again before raising her glance back up at Teddy when he suggested a movie. Why was he being so nice? Just moments ago she had believed that he was so pissed about being rejected that he wanted to take her home and now here he was suggesting a cozy evening of pizza and a movie. It kind of didn’t make sense, but Kayla guessed it would be unwise to question it.
And so instead of over analysing why he had changed his mind about things, she nodded, giving a somewhat shy smile. ”I..” she began, nearly finishing it with love you before she stopped herself. She’d only meant it in a purely friendly term of endearment to express how she appreciated him being so cool about this whole situation but it would have still been risky ground. It’s the kind of phrase that nobody bats an eyelid at when used in a pally context, but used with someone who you pretty much just rejected whilst making out with them on their bed, it was confusing at best. ”think that’s a great idea” she finished, saving herself from any difficulties over the original phrase. She handed him the menu, approaching a little closer and wrapping her arms around him, taking a deep breath in and a sigh out as she rested her head on him. That seemed a good alternative to I love you to show him a little thanks for being understanding of her crazy indecisiveness. Pulling away after a few silent seconds of cuddling, Kayla looked up at Teddy and gave him a little smile ”Any movie in mind? [/blockquote]

he added, with a smile. True enough that the last few days had consisted of quite a bit of drinking, as Mikayla herself well knew. Teddy's alcohol comsumption over the past week or so had turned almost exceedingly dangerous, a thought that hadn't escaped him as he eyed the bottle of pear cider on the kitchen counter. He probably shouldn't be doing anything to add to the many alcoholic units he'd been putting into his body recently. Teddy looked around at her again when she said she was quite easy. A strange choice of words, he thought, but decided not to comment on it - it probably wasn't the best time to do so, plus Mikayla herself seemed to have realised the connotations of her own sentence anyway. Teddy merely smiled in response and turned back to the counter, picking up the bottle he'd been considering ditching and taking a long swig from it. Seventeen and this was the kind of lifestyle he was leading - it wasn't right, and Teddy had some inkling of that. It didn't take a genius to work out that a seventeen year out shouldn't be routinely drinking themselves into a stupor or unconsciousness like that. It was a great life lesson to do it the once when you were young - like Mikayla had done last night - but when it became almost habitual, it was no longer a lesson or an experience, but a problem. Teddy ignored the better part of his conscience as he took a long drink from the bottle. Mikayla had began to say something, and he turned and waited in earnest for how she was going to finish it. He frowned slightly and held the bottle in his hand, leaning his back against the kitchen counter. He took the menu from her and dropped it back down on the counter. Teddy was surprised when Mikayla approached him, wrapping her arms around him and giving him a hug. For a brief second it felt almost awkward, but he wrapped his arm around her to pull her close and gave her a little squeeze. It was just something to try and build a bridge back between them after the confusing events of earlier. "I don't know," Teddy announced, picking the phone back up and eyeing the menu as she began to dial the number for the pizza place. "They're in the living room, in the glass cabinet," Teddy told her. "Go have a look, you pick what you want - just one condition," he explained, before he finished dialling. "Absolutely no way am I watching a movie that has a dog in it," he told her. His uncle had Marley and Me tucked away in the DVD cabinet, although Teddy wasn't sure why. [/ul]

We’ll make things right,
we’ll feel it all tonight. Kayla smirked at his comment, despite the concerning underlying connotations behind it. She resisted the urge to disappoint him with the fact potatoes didn’t even count as one of you five a day, even if a tenuous link had been made between them and vodka. She didn’t know Teddy well enough really to understand just quite how bad his drinking was, presuming that he just did the normal casual house party boozing that most kids their age did. She wasn’t a massive drinker herself, as was made quite obvious last night, but Addie went out on weekends for one binge drink, enough to put her off until the next weekend normally. Kayla just assumed that was just what everyone did-Teddy had never struck her as anything other than normal in this respect.
The hug had seemed a good idea but it could have well ended up just as uncomfortable as the dreaded uttering of ”I love you”. Kayla sometimes tended to think she was just an awkward person, slightly too shy and clutzy for her own good, and she just brought a sense of awkwardness into most situations she was in. Still, she tried her best to ooze that natural confidence her sister owned, even if it did normally end in her cringing about some ridiculous things she had said or done.
She frowned at his comment about the dogs ”What film has a dog in i..” she began, slightly stumped by this before Marley and Me came to her mind. ”Ohh, right, yeah. No, okay, I won’t pick that” she smiled, not wanting yet another sob tonight. ”I think I’ve made enough of a tit of myself tonight without crying on you again” she added, again realising the little unintended joke within her words. At least Teddy would be quite unaware of just how relevant the tit part of that statement was she thought, blushing a little regardless. She turned her reddened cheeks away from him and headed into the living room, flopping down onto the carpet and sitting cross legged in front of the cabinet. Horror? Too much tension. RomCom? A little too cringy in the current situation? Kayla made a little ”Hmm” noise out loud as she flicked through the DVDs one by one, discarding most of them for various reasons. ”Source Code?” she called through, unsure if Teddy was still on the phone. ”A bit like Inception, but less confusing?” she added with a shrug. Inception was an incredible movie but Kayla really had not got a clue what was going on in it. Did it make her look ditzy to admit that? Probably. Still, she couldn’t think she was the only person in the world not to completely get the idea of hacking into multiple levels of someone’s unconsciousness

Teddy assured her. He bent down to the cabinet, bending over beside her, the bottle in his hand still as he looked over the various DVDs in the cabinet. They ranged greatly, and Teddy could barely remember how they'd managed to come across such a wide variety of different movies. "The pizza should be about thirty minutes," he explained, sitting down. "And don't worry, I ordered extra pineapple for you," he joked.[/ul]

Kayla had ignored what almost sounded like a laugh-containing cough, putting it down to swallowing the cider wrong- she was pretty confident he would be unable to read any more deeply into the tit comment than it’s face value. Kayla was quite glad really that she had left her own cider upstairs. It wasn’t the worst thing she’d ever tasted but it wasn’t exactly the sort of thing you could happily swig down.. well, Teddy obviously could. The idea of drinking casually like this in your own house was almost a little alien to her in all honesty. She drank when she went out and that was it, she would never have a drink with her meal or just for the hell of it. Not that she really judged Teddy in any way for having a drink this evening, for all she knew it could well be her who was unusual, and she was quite sure Teddy was hardly an alcoholic.
At Teddy’s agreement, Kayla got the DVD out of it’s case and popped it in the DVD player. She didn’t really like tampering with people’s stuff in their houses like that but Teddy was already settled down and she would feel a little needy and pathetic to shove the DVD at him for him to sort out. She was quite capable of working the machine herself she reasoned, and Teddy was hardly going to shout at her for touching the electricals. With the DVD in the machine, Kayla stood up, made her way over to the sofa and sat down next to Teddy, quite unsure of how close was appropriate. If she sat too far away she looked a little nervy and distant but too close and she looked too clingy and like she was trying to forget all about the earlier awkwardness. Which she was, she supposed, but she didn’t want to confuse Teddy any more. So she sat down at what she thought was a good distance, pulling her legs up to the side of her so she leaned towards him, but not encroaching too much on his space. Kayla wondered after all of this whether any worrier in the history of worrisome people had every put quite so much thought into their positioning on a sofa. She was quite possibly a weirdo...
”Okay, that’s cool” she said almost a little distantly, still pondering sofa etiquette. At the mention of pineapple though she turned and scowled at him. Kayla could seriously think of nothing worse to have on pizza than tropical fruit.. who would even think of that?! ”Better not have done Teddy..” she said in a jokily threatening tone. Even once you had picked the darn pieces of pineapple off, you still had to contend with the pineapple juice mingling into the cheese. Seriously retch worthy. As she looked at him, her scowl softened into an almost admiring gaze, her eyes kind of transfixed by his good looking features for a few seconds. Woah. Kayla turned away and faced the telly, a little freaked out herself by this little moment of stalkerishness. Definately a weirdo.

Teddy retorted, with a heavy sash of sarcasm when she threatened him, his own reply containing a air of a joke too. Both Kayla and him knew very well Teddy wasn't going to order extra pineapple on the pizza. Teddy could be an asshole at times, but he wasn't a complete lunatic. He'd glanced over at her, waiting to see if she'd reply, only to find her mildly stupefied as she stared back at him, with an almost blank look. Teddy frowned as she turned to face the telly again, and he continued to look at her face with a bit of concern. What was that all about, Teddy wondered, looking back at the TV again. It had been a strange moment, and Teddy's grin had faultered when he'd seen her transfixed stare. He felt a little strange, Kayla had never done something like that before. Deciding to shelve the concern or confusion away, Teddy turned back to TV as well and hit the play button on the remote. He leaned back into the couch, taking a drink from the bottle, which was now almost completely empty. He couldn't get rid of the lingering feeling that Kayla had left him with though, it had been such an odd moment. He knew he ought to not dwell on it, but the whole strange experience had left quite a remarkable impression on Teddy. "Are we cool?" Teddy asked after a while, wondering if her stare had been one where she was trying to sum up her dislike for Teddy. He looked back over at her, holding the bottle in his hand. "I mean... what happened earlier... we're cool, right?" Teddy asked, seeking forgiveness for his harsh reaction to her. Teddy wasn't used to girls saying 'no', mostly because he knew the wrong kind of girls.[/ul]

Kayla chewed on her lip, cursing herself for that little daydream in his direction. It certainly looked odd just to stare at somebody, and Teddy definitely seemed a little weirded out by the whole thing from his suddenly sunken smile. Daydreaming straight at somebody was however not an infrequent occurance for Kayla- she would often find herself staring into space and unintentionally catching someone’s eye. Generally she put it down to her being more of a thinker than a speaker, her mind often wandering into a little world of it’s own without any regard to what or who in particular she was looking at. But this incident couldn’t be written off as a daydream which just happened to be in his direction- she had been staring straight at Teddy’s face in a kind of 'aren’t you beautiful' dazed way.. it was once again horrifically uncomfortable. If there was ever a potentially awkward situation, Kayla was sure she would find it and step straight into it.
At Teddy's words though, Kayla turned her somewhat mortified face towards him and looked into his eyes, her cheeks now flushing even more with the memories of the incident which he was quite tactfully referring to. It almost seemed an odd thing to say, as if Teddy was making an apology towards her. After all, it wasn’t as if he had done much wrong, it was Kayla who had mucked it all up. Okay, him walking out in a huff was a little difficult to take, but Kayla had definitely initiated the awkwardness of that situation. She took a little breath out, looking down to avoid eye contact as she thought of how to reply to this. Just simply acknowledging that she was ‘cool’ didn’t seem enough, it was as if this question invited some deeper reflection on what had happened. Dissecting something which was over and done with seemed futile but at least she could attempt to apologise for her actions a little more, now they were both a little calmer. ”I didn’t mean to screw things up Teddy..” she began, aiming her gaze reluctantly up to his eyes. ”It’s me who should be asking if things are cool, I was the one who made everything weird. I’m so sorry..again”. Kayla sighed and looked towards the telly for a few moments before looking back at him a little more sadly than before ”So if you can be cool with me after all that, we’re definitely cool.”.
Kayla herself was even able to acknowledge that her attitudes towards the whole situation were almost a little wrong. She shouldn’t feel the need to apologise again and again. It was never a mistake to say no to something you were uncomfortable with but yet she seemed to take this guilty outlook on the events of earlier, believing herself to be firmly in the wrong for her decision. The guilt of leading Teddy on of course worsened her need to apologise but even so, there was something mildly concerning about a girl who felt so strongly the need to grovel forgiveness for exercising her right to refuse a boy, even if the circumstances around that refusal were somewhat confused and awkward. Teddy assured her, picking at the label around the bottle of cider and beginning to peel it away. He didn't look up at her though, keeping his eyes on the bottle, he didn't even glance up at the TV as the movie began. Teddy hoped that Kayla wasn't going to read this as him lying about them being okay. Teddy had forgiven Kayla for what had happened earlier, because in retrospect it had been a little bit funny. At the time it had confused Teddy, but now it was beginning to look a little different to him. He looked up at the TV briefly before returning back to the arduous work of peeling away the label on the cider bottle. The small silver flakes from where the cap had been was beginning to fall away onto his hand and he bit his lip suddenly and looked to the side, glancing at the door and hoping the pizza wouldn't take too long. He sat in silence for a while, working on the bottle until he spoke up finally. "Kayla," he said slowly, very precisely. "If you think I'm going to laugh about it, then you're wrong," he assured her. Teddy glanced back at her and then quickly back down at the bottle he was continuing to tear apart. "I like you," he told her, with a shrug of his left shoulder. "So I wouldn't laugh, and I wouldn't tell anybody," he explained, looking back at her and then gesturing to her chest with the bottle and giving her a little smile. "It's not a big secret," he added. Big secrets were like the ones he had, little secrets were the ones Mikayla walked around with stuffed in her bra.
